Pinterest is My Life Coach
By Lisa Payne
Does your morning look like this? You turn off your alarm, warm up the coffee-maker, run through your social media on your phone, and then turn the lights on. Does that sound like you? Well, you’re amongst good company. In fact, according to a survey done by the tech analyst company ReportLinker, 46% of Americans check their smartphones before even making it out of bed. Budding cell phone addiction aside, checking one app in particular first thing in the morning could actually be the healthiest thing you’ll do all day.
With over 200 million users, Pinterest is the digital vision board of dreamers, shoppers, stylists, artists, marketers and more. Vision boards, or dream boards, were originally created so that you can collect whatever inspires you into one physical place. They help to clear creative roadblocks, to work out life obstacles and to set intentions for self-improvement. Physical vision/dream boards are often made on corkboards or poster board. You cut, paste, or pin postcards, things you’ve cut out of magazines, or even a fortune from inside a fortune cookie. This collage becomes a physical manifestation of the goals you wish to fulfill. Set it out somewhere you can see it on a daily basis and it will propel your energy in such a way that your actions will follow that intent. Pinterest is a way to do that from anywhere and without the physical cut and paste.
One the best ways to use Pinterest is to make a self-care and motivational vision board. First, create a new board and come up with a title that resonates with you. Then, search a topic of something you’re struggling with in your life, mantras or even just words and phrases that spark your interest. You can have as many self-motivating boards and pins as you’d like. You can even target the boards a step further by breaking them into your unique goals. Want to keep a board private? No problem. Just modify your settings to keep that board between you and Pinterest. Pin things that are specific to each board and look at them as often as you need.
Among your various pins should be positive affirmations, memes and quotes. Use Pinterest as your life coach! Positive affirmations help change your mindset, build confidence and to discover new ideas. Whether just to read, say out loud, put on your desk or wall or to pin, affirmations affirm the energy you want in your life. Each time you pin something to your boards or look at them, you are coaching yourself and building a stronger headspace. So, when you are feeling stuck, pin. It’s the perfect way to learn how to productively daydream your way to doing more of what you love!
